Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN MERCY HINTON (nee BOYD) February 19, 1923 - April 4, 2002 Peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2002 Joan Mercy Hinton (nee Boyd), aged 79, passed away. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Edith Boyd; sisters, Edith Wexler, Kathleen Finch, Dolly Torrance, and Ena Currie. Joan leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Jack of 56 wonderful years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Sokalski (Pat Waters), grandsons, Matthew and Iain; Kathleen Beattie (Chris), grandchildren, Graeme and Meghan; and Barbara Opyc (John), granddaughter Kathryn-Lee. Left to mourn are her sisters, Phyllis Hutzulak and Marjorie Morgan; sisters-in-law, Eileen Grant (Lawrence) and Kay Bathgate; nieces, Marjorie Olson, Marilyn Groothedde (Hank), and Joan Morgan; and all other nieces and nephews whom she cherished. Joan was born in Winnipeg and grew up in West Kildonan, she graduated from Centennial High where she was a Girl Guide and cub leader. Her working career began at The Bay and was later employed by C.P. Rail until she retired in 1981. Joan was a wonderful and loving mother who cherished her family. There was always home cooked food for anyone dropping by for a visit. Her love of sewing and knitting meant new creations would be waiting for her daughters and grandchildren. She also found hours of enjoyment in her lovely garden. Her family has fond memories of time shared at their cottage on Echo Bay. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Concordia Hospital 3rd floor for their care and guidance, especially nurse Valerie Wiebe, Dr.; Caners, and Dr. Malmstrom, also Alexandra Beel of Palliative Care and a very special thanks to nurses Caroline and Lovey. Your spirit lives within us Mom. Memorial service to be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
