Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCALVIN HUBERT BOYD Calvin Hubert Boyd was born on October 23, 1944 in Minnedosa. He passed away at his home in Leaf Rapids on March 17, 2002. He was 57. Calvin was predeceased by his father Hubert in 1979; his mother Mabel in 1996; and his son Shawn in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dawn; sons, Arlen and Ryan; daughter-in-law Nina, of Leaf Rapids; a sister MaryAnn and brother-in-law Robert Carr of Calgary and their children Sayla, Lynn and Chad. Calvin grew up on his parents farm near Bethany, MB. He attended school in both Bethany and Minnedosa. He was employed by the Department of Highways, took a carpentry course at present-day Red River College, and then went to work for Steve Skatch Construction, in Minnedosa. In 1969, Calvin and Dawn went north. Calvin worked for Sherritt-Gordon Mines in the carpenter shops in Lynn Lake and at the Ruttan Mine near Leaf Rapids for a number of years. For the past 21 years, he was employed by the Manitoba Housing Authority. Calvin was an active member of the community of Leaf Rapids. He took positions on the boards of the Credit Union, the Co-op and Minor Hockey. He was a member of the Elks Lodges in Leaf Rapids and in Thompson. He became part of the Provincial Elks Association for a number of years and in 1984 he became Provincial President. He was the Mayor of Leaf Rapids for 12 years and was a volunteer firefighter for 21 years, acting as Deputy Fire Chief for a portion of that time. Calvin also found time for a number of hobbies. He especially enjoyed the outdoors and he loved to spend time at his cabin on Turnbull Lake. We never lose the ones we love; for even though theyre gone, within the hearts of those who care, their memory lingers on. Memorial services were held in Leaf Rapids on Wednesday, March 20, Boardman/Northland Funeral Service in charge, and in Minnedosa on Friday, March 22, Sparrow Funeral Service in charge. Interment was in Boyd Cemetery, Bethany, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Calvins memory to a charity of your choice.
