VEIKKO (VIC) SALO 1922 - 2002 On Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Victoria Hospital, Vic Salo died at the age of 79. Veikko (Vic) Arvo Olavi Salo was born May 23, 1922 and grew up in Viipuri, Karelia, Finland. After war service, including the winter war of 1939 to 1940, he studied architecture. Vic married Arja Vaarto on April 24, 1948 and they came with their first son to Edmonton in 1951. In 1961 they came to Winnipeg, where Vic worked for Moody Moore, G.B.R., and as an independent designer, until retirement in 1988. Vic loved music and singing with the Scandinavian choir for many years. Summers at Pointe du Bois and winter vacations in Mexico, golf, dancing, and time among friends were cherished by Vic. He will be remembered with love by his wife Arja, sons, Ilkka (Audrey) of Victoria, Tony (Linda) of Vancouver, and Kim (Susan) of Virden; daughter Marita Morrow of Vancouver; and grandchildren, Aisia, Kai, Michael, Matthew, Liane, and Leif. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. at Aubrey Street with the Rev. Thomas J. Lurvery officiating. A reception honouring Vic will follow at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764 Erin. The family gives thanks to the caring staff at Victoria General Hospital.
