JOANN ANITA WIEBE-BATHIE (nee BOSEK) June 22, 1965 - April 5, 2002 It is with great sadness to announce the passing of JoAnn, peacefully, with her husband and sister at her side, on April 5, 2002, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. JoAnn leaves to mourn her husband Shaun; son Brian; stepson Jason Bathie (Roxanne) stepdaughters, Jennifer (Ken) Ward, and Carolyn Bathie; granddaughter Janessa. Also left to mourn are father Richard (Irene) Bosek; mother Marilyn Bosek; sister Wanda (Doug) Wilcox; brothers, Michael, David and Raymond Bosek; nephews, Patrick and Stewart Wilcox; as well as special friends, Nadia (Tyson) Choptain and Dayna MacDearmid. Always a selfless giving person, JoAnn always put others first, even with strangers. JoAnn completed high school as an adult and became a Certified Network Administrator (C.N.A.) only to have her career cut short by the disease. She loved to do crafts (of all kinds) and draw to perfection. She enjoyed sailing, gardening and quiet times with Shaun and Brian. JoAnn spent her teen years with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 170 Squadron and later joined the Canadian Army reserves with the Fort Garry Horse Armoured Regiment. Here she met her sons dad and moved to Saskatchewan. There she met and formed a special bond with "Baba", and gave birth to her precious son Brian. A short time after returning to Winnipeg she met Shaun and spent the rest of her life with him, getting married January 12, 2002 at the Grace Hospital. Together they went camping many times and took trips to Pine Point Rapids. There were many enjoyable quiet times spent together. She loved to watch Shaun curl in the Fun Lovers League, where she became friends with many of the other curlers. While tirelessly working on the renovations of their house, Ken and Jen introduced JoAnn to the Breakfast Club, where again she formed many special friendships. She always had a strong belief in family, often became the "glue" for hers and Shauns family. She often spent sleepless hours comforting, consoling and refereeing family members. JoAnn touched many people in her life. In the last two years she helped other cancer patients understand what was happening to them and how to deal with their circumstances. She also helped and befriended many nurses and aides. Special thanks go out to the oncology staff of the Victoria and Grace Hospitals, the nurses of the 4th floor, aides and volunteers of the Grace Hospital for their compassion and comfort. A very special thank you goes to Major Cath McFarlane of the Salvation Army at the Grace Hospital for her spirituality, faith, comfort and friendship. Cremation has taken place and a memorial for JoAnn will take place Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel on the main floor at the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Grace Foundation at the hospital, towards a tribute to JoAnn would be greatly appreciated. Her Journeys Just Begun Dont think of her as gone away... Her journey has just begun Life holds so many facets... This earth is only one. Just think of her as resting From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing That we could know today How nothing but our sadness Can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts Of those she touched... For nothing loved is ever lost... And she has loved so much. E. Brenneman Funeral service provided by Wojciks 2157 Portage Avenue 897 - 4665
