OLGA FAST It is with deep sorrow that the family of Olga Fast (nee Foth) announce her passing on April 6, 2002. Lovingly surrounded by her family, Olga entered into the presence of the Lord. She is survived by her beloved husband Waldo; sons, Waldo (Edith), and their children, Andrew (Krista), Mark, and Roslynn; Bernie (Susie), and their children, Lloyd (Hildi) Peters, and Arlie (Eva) Peters; and Rick (Joanne), and their children, Michael and David; daughter Martha (Pete) Wiebe, and their children, Kevin, Richard, and Angela. She is also survived by two sisters, Frieda (Willy) Hassenrueck and Elsa (Edmund) Matis; as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives. Olga was born on February 26, 1918 in the Ukraine. She spent her early years in Poland, on the family farm. These were exceptional childhood and youth years. It is here that she accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour. After the Second World War she fled to Germany and in 1948 immigrated to Canada. In 1952, she was married to Waldo and they raised their family in Winnipeg. Olga was very involved in her church teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. The hospitality and love for people that she observed in her mother was a gift she inherited and which she used generously. Sundays always found visitors around the table, enjoying her incredible cooking and baking. Music was also an important part of her life and she always surrounded herself with it. Olga also had a wonderful sense of humour, and had an infectious laugh and she was always the life of the party. Olgas pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She loved hearing about their lives and got excited with their accomplishments in academics, sports, and music. During the last few years of poor health her faith never wavered. On Wednesday night, with her condition deteriorating, she still managed to pray for each of her children and grandchildren. That evening she encouraged all her family that the most important thing in life was to walk with her Lord. Her last hope was that we would all meet again in heaven. On of her favourite verses was Jeremiah 31:3, "The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness." Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Elmwood Mennonite Brethern Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. Interment to follow at Mennonite Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Life Network. Arrangements in care of Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
