Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA KURBIS It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Friday, April 5, 2002. Lena was born on June 9, 1918 in Thalberg, MB, and lived her early years there. She has lived in Selkirk since 1942. She was a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and her church meant everything to her. She was very upset that in recent years her declining health kept her from attending. Mom was a humble, loving, unassuming person who always saw the good in everyone and had a gentle, compassionate nature. Mom was especially proud of all her grandchildren and deeply cherished her great-grandchildren. Left to mourn her passing is her son Clifford (Liz) and granddaughters, Shannon and Mychelle (Philip) Houde; daughter Edna (Mike) Oleksiuk and granddaughter Bonny (Dan) Weber, grandson Mike (Lisa) Oleksiuk and grandson Darren (Gisele) Oleksiuk and great-grandchildren, Kiara and Tanner Oleksiuk and Jaden Weber. She is also survived by sisters, Eliza Loeb and Helen (Ernest) Beck; brothers, Dan (Herta) Patzer and Harry (Elsie) Patzer and sisters-in-law, Hulda Patzer and Liz Patzer and numerous nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her husband Paul (1983) father Theodore (1956) mother Rosalie (1989) brothers, Leonard (1975), Harold (1997) and sisters, Edith Trapp (2000) and Anne Bauschke (1972). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 6088 PTH 9, Selkirk, MB with Pastor David Saude officiating. Interment will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery with her nephews as pallbearers. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.

Grandma will always be in my heart. Even 12 years later I often think about Paul and Lena. They have taught me life skills which I still value to this day. Thank-you for your love and guidance and God Bless you both. - Posted by: Michael Oleksiuk (Grandson) on: Jul 24, 2014
