MILDRED LENORE BUTCHER (DENNIS)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED LENORE BUTCHER (nee DENNIS) Peacefully, on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Birtle District Health Centre after a courageous struggle with cancer. Born the eldest daughter of Herbert Bayfield Dennis and Muriel Elizabeth Edwards at Oberon, MB on September 5, 1923. She attended school at Brookdale and took teachers training at Brandon Normal School. She taught at Arden and Birtle before marrying Earl Arnold Butcher on July 26, 1947. They raised their seven children on the farm in the Burdette district, encouraging them to be involved in a variety of 4-H, church, school, musical and sports activities. Mildred was a giving and caring person. Her greatest joys in life were her family and her service through the many organizations to which she belonged. She is lovingly remembered by her seven children, Dennis (Amy), Janice, Garth, Donald (Donna), Bruce, Joy (Keith Bamford), and Lindsay; 13 grandchildren, Bradley, Anisa, Warren, Andrew, Deanna, Darwin, Curtis, Adele, Cleo, Haley, Christopher, Joshua and Ethan; her sister Kathleen (Charles Swanson) and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Earl in 1987 and sister Florence in 2001. Mildred taught Sunday school at Solsgirth and Birtle, led the Birtle 4-H Garden Club and the United Church Explorers group. She was active in the Co-op Guild; the Birtle United Church Women; the Order of the Eastern Star, Artaban Chapter for 48 years, serving as Worthy Matron five times and as Worthy Grand Matron of Manitoba in 1991 to 1992; the Birtle Womens Institute for 25 years, serving as President, Secretary and Provincial Director; the Birtle Agricultural Society as member and director for 45 years; the Birtle United Church Board serving as chair and on numerous committees; Donors Choice and the Birtle Curling Club (life member). From 1968 to 1972, she again taught at Birtle Elementary School (Kindergarten). Mildred enjoyed reading, gardening, travelling, bridge, crossword puzzles, family gatherings and her many friends. A service celebrating her life will be held at the Birtle United Church on Friday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Birtle Cemetery and lunch at the church. Should friends or relatives so desire, donations may be made in Mildreds memory to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service of Russell, Manitoba are in care of the arrangements.
