MAHER (nee SMITH) November 17,1926 - April 7, 2002 Peacefully at the St. Boniface hospital on April 7, 2002, Thelma Maher, beloved wife of Arthur Maher, passed away. Besides her loving husband of 54 years, Thelma will be missed by her four sons, Gordon (Madeleine), Tom (Robynn), Bruce (Fran), and Rodney (Lilian) eleven grandchilden; her brother Harold Smith (Elsie) and many relatives. She will also be mourned by her many friends. Her parents, Fred and Olga Smith, and her brother, Lawrence, predeceased Thelma. Thelma was born and educated in Winnipeg. At age 16, she commenced working at Burns Meats. She left to raise her family, and then returned to Burns until her retirement in 1991. She was always proud of receiving the Burns Employee of the Year Award for her excellent work performance. Throughout her life Thelma was a kind, caring, gentle lady. She loved children. She was dedicated to the upbringing of her sons, and later Omas greatest pleasures were her visits with her grandchildren. She taught Sunday School at St. Vital United Church, played piano and assisted with the kindergarten. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. To Mom How very, very lucky we were That you were our Mother You opened our minds and our hearts. You always had the time To tell us a story or sing us a song. You always picked us up When we fell down. You will always be the most Important lady in our lives. Your love and guidance Will always be with us. We wish you could have been With us longer, but we are so Grateful for the time we had. All of us, your friends and family, Will truly miss you.
