Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAX GROSS Max Gross passed away at the Sharon Home in d on March 18, 2002. He was born in Russia on July 7, 1911 and immigrated to Canada as a young boy. He had very little formal schooling as he went to work to support his family. In 1937, he married Shirley Divinsky of Winnipeg, who predeceased him in 1995, and with whom he shared his life and had three children. Max was a veteran of the Second World War and, upon his return, worked in family businesses such as Manitoba Wholesale Grocers and Utility Glove. He retired in the mid-seventies and enjoyed a long and peaceful period with his children and grandchildren, his dogs, taking long walks and some travel. He moved into the Sharon Home in 1995 and enjoyed lots of visits from family and friends until his death. Our gratitude to his companions over these years; Shirlee, Helen and Ilina, and to the staff on the 4th floor for their love and care. Max is survived by his children and their families; Bernadine and Terry Goldman, Oliver (Gloria), Elizabeth, Leah and Matthew, all living in the United States; Zachary and Jennifer (Thompson), Isaac, Ben, Zoe and Larissa of Beresford, MB; and Sharman and Don Atnikov, Samantha, Brenna and Nathan, of Calgary. Not long before he died, Max became a great-grandfather to Doran Avery Goldman of California. Max always described himself as a lucky fish, although his life wasnt always healthy or secure. He was thankful for the blessings he received, worked hard to support his family, and was always friendly to those around him. He strived, as a family member, boss and neighbour, to do things for other people and was known to hire troubled people and help them get along in life, to visit and chauffeur older family members around the city, and to befriend challenged people who needed personal support. We miss him because he was so lovable. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 21 at the Sharon Home, with burial taking place at the Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park. Thanks go to Rabbi Neal Rose for presiding over a wonderfully warm service on a very cold day. Pallbearers were Terry Goldman, Don Atnikov, Nathan Atnikov, Isaac Gross, Ben Gross and Gavriel Garland. In Maxs memory donations may be made to the Sharon Home Spiritual Fund or to a charity of your choice.
