PETER PIPER 1931 - 2002 Peter was called home suddenly after a brief illness on April 11, 2002. Predeceased by his parents, Rev. Karp and Anna Hrycauk; and sister-in-law Ruth Piper. Peter is survived by his wife Carole (nee Evans) daughter Stephanie; sons, Glen Hodgson (Christina) and Randy Hodgson (Jan) grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Andrew and David; siblings, John Hrycauk (Rose), Nida Kerychuk (Paul), Elsie Myhal (Alex), Dave Piper (Gail), Mildred Tkachuk (Walter), Mary Krawchuk (Paul), Cornel Piper (Rita), Anne Diachun (John) sister-in-law Bonnie Abbott (Bill) and brother-in-law John Evans (Sue) numerous nieces and nephews and special family friends, Wayne Caplette (Mary), Dale Kollusky (Valerie) and their families. Peter was born on November 1, 1931 in Rife, AB, where he spent his childhood years on the family homestead. His family relocated to Toronto, Winnipeg and back to Alberta during his early youth. He eventually made his home in Winnipeg. He was employed as an electrician at Maple Leaf Flour Mills, Dominion Bridge and Transport Canada (Winnipeg Airport). Peter was an enthusiastic sportsman. He was involved in several amateur and professional sports teams and associations throughout the years including The Winnipeg Monarchs, St. James Rams, St. James Rods, St. James Raiders, St. Vital Bulldogs, Norwood-St. Boniface Legionnaires, The Winnipeg Junior Jets, The Winnipeg Goldeyes (70s), St. Boniface Mohawks and The Manitoba Boxing Association, with boxing being his fondest involvement and enjoyment. He was two time Manitoba Amateur Heavyweight Boxing Champion in the 1950s. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his family and friends, as well as volunteering in several capacities at Calvary Temple Youth Camp throughout the years. Peter was actively involved in his church in areas such as CSB No. 590, Billy Graham Association and the telephone/counseling ministries but his main focus was teaching Sunday school for over 43 years. In the last two years he particularly enjoyed the Saturday morning prayer service. Peter will be remembered as a people person; he was kind and caring and he enjoyed spending time in conversation with his friends and family and he always looked to the bright side of every situation. His laugh was infectious and he always had a smile for everyone he met. Peter never wavered in his faith, and everyone knew where he stood and what he believed. He had a genuine love of life and a great pride for his childrens accomplishments. He will invariably leave his family and friends with warm thoughts and broad smiles. Peter was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. Our thanks to the many friends who have provided love and support, for which Peter and his family are deeply grateful. A special thanks to Craig Doerksen and Dr. Gordon Griggs. A celebration of Peters life will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St., Winnipeg with viewing commencing at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service.
