JAMES NORMAN (NORM) McLENNAN Born in Winnipeg, May 31, 1927, passed away peacefully March 30, 2002 in Victoria, BC. Norm leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years Audrey; sons, Paul, Gord and Doug; daughter-in-law Sarah and granddaughter Kate; sister Lillian Scheibel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and David Girling, and Cec and Bill Girling; and several cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Jack. He worked as Comptroller for Acres International in Winnipeg for 22 years until his retirement in 1989. His lifelong passion was singing. Blessed with a powerful baritone, Norm was much in demand as a soloist and choir member, and sang at countless events over the years. He was a member of Fort Garry United Church Choir for 27 years, and sang numerous roles in musical theatre productions at the Hollow Mug at the International Inn. After moving to Victoria in 1989, he sang with several choirs, the Pacific Opera chorus, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society and more recently as a volunteer entertaining patients at Victoria General Hospital. Norm was a kind and caring friend, who made a point of keeping in touch with an ever-growing collection of those who crossed his path. Armed with an infectious sense of humour and a genuine love for life, he invariably left friends with warm thoughts and broad smiles. Loquacious onstage, in daily life he preferred to practice his good works quietly and without fanfare. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. Our thanks to the many friends who have provided love and support, for which Norm and his family are deeply grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations would be much appreciated by the Open Door, 502 Pembroke St., Victoria, BC, V8T 1H4; or the United Church Mission and Service Fund, Suite 300, 3250 Bloor St. West, Etobicoke, ON, M8X 2Y4. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, on Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m.
