NELSON RUDOLPH NICKEL Peacefully on April 8, 2002 at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 85, Nelson Rudolph Nickel went to be with the Lord. He is survived by his two sons, Nelson (Karen) of Winnipeg and Alvin (Kim) of Calgary. Son-in-law Phillip Ring (Catherine) of Bellingham, WA. Also to cherish his memory are his grand-children, Trevor, Cindy (Dale), Wesley (Leanne), Tiffany, Angela, Ryan, Tyler; great-grand-daughter Christine; and great-grandson Cameron. Dad was predeceased by his wife Marion of 45 years; son Arnold; daughter Patricia; parents, Andrew and Rosalie (Gunther) brothers, Henry, Gustaf, Herman, Fredrich, Erich, Edward; and sisters, Lida, Lena, Naomi, Hilda. Dad was born in Moosehorn, MB in 1916 and later moved with his parents to Headingly, MB. He spent most of his adult life in Winnipeg in the Riverview area with his wife Marion and family. During the Second World War, Dad enlisted in the Army and learned his craft. In 1946 and up until his retirement in 1982, he was an active partner and then owner of Norwood Auto Body. Dad took great pride in doing quality work and had many satisfied customers over the years. Dad was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was active with the LaVerendrye Game and Fish Association and served on its Executive for many years. Dad was also a charter member of the Caribou Lakers. Each year, on the May long weekend, Dad and his group of friends would open the fishing season with a trip to Caribou Lake near Bissett, MB. Over the years he loved telling anyone who would listen about the many adventures and misadventures they had. Dad enjoyed the many times he spent with the family at Hillside Beach, playing cards, checkers and fishing with the grandchildren. He also loved to tinker and get involved with fixing up the cottage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 15 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Max Sood, Lloyd Nickel, Fred Trapp, Roy Nichol, Leonard Trapp and Glenn Nickel. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Riverview Health Centre 2B for their kind and caring attention. They are truly very special people. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Nelsons memory. He loved life, he loved his family, he had a kind and generous soul that will be missed.
