LILIAN DOROTHY BELL (nee OTTO) Passed away peace-fully on April 18, 2002 at Third Crossing Manor, Gladstone, after a lengthy struggle with cancer, Dorothy Bell, aged 88 years. Dorothy was born November 25, 1913 in Winnipeg to Mary and Henry Otto, fourth of 11 children. At age three, the family moved to farm in the Pembroke District, where she received her education. She worked at various jobs, then in 1949 she married Tom Bell. Devoted to each other with mutual interests, they actively took part in many community organizations. Dorothy was skilled at all food preparation, knitting, embroidery, sewing, and gardening, for which she won awards annually at the Ag. Society Fair. She was devoted to Eastern Star Lodge, serving many offices locally and provincially. Dorothy was a member who regularly attended and supported the United Church and UCW, as well as being an honourary member of the Gladstone Ag. Society. She enjoyed bridge clubs, crossword puzzles, board games, and was a regular correspondent with excellent penmanship. Predeceased by her parents; sisters, Lydia, and Audrey; brothers, Oscar, Carl, Fred, and Arthur; her husband Tom; and grandson Jeffrey. Left to mourn is sister Freida of Mankato, MN; brothers, Walter (Mabel) of Gladstone, Albert of St. Albert, AB, and Robert (Fran) of Pinawa, MB; sisters-in-law, Helen, Madge and Margaret; and many nieces and nephews. She is affectionately remembered by step-sons, James (Edna) and Ian (Doreen) seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gladstone United Church. Interment will follow at the Gladstone Cemetery with a reception at the Legion Hall following the interment. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9, or to a charity of ones choice. Clarkes Funeral Home, Gladstone, in care of arrangements.
