Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLAFUR (OLI) BERGTHORSON Peacefully on April 13, 2002 at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, Olafur (Oli) Bergthorson, aged 84 years, of Lundar, MB. Oli was born November 10, 1917 in Lundar, MB. He bought fish at Langruth and on Lake Winnipeg. On August 8, 1942, he married Dorothy Hannesson. They lived in Langruth for three years before moving to Lundar. Oli and Dorothy moved back to Langruth, then to Cleveland, OH, where he apprenticed as a meat cutter. After moving back to Lundar again, Oli worked for Fred Thorkelson on heavy construction, then for Carl Bjornsson as a meat cutter. Oli worked in Northern Manitoba for many years and was an Assistant Manager of the Co-op in Gillam, MB, for five years. Oli and Dorothy bought Marks Self Serve store in Lundar which they operated for 11 years. Oli loved fishing, watching hockey (Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Moose), football (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), curling and golf. He was a member of the Lundar Lutheran Church. Dad was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and loved reading Icelandic books. Oli loved being around his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all little children. He leaves to mourn his wife Dorothy; two sons, Tom and wife Peggy of Edmonton, Doug and wife Morag of Winnipeg; two daughters, Judy and husband Wayne Eirickson of Lundar, Loraley and husband Fred Bennett of Lundar; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Runa Hallson of Lundar, Mina Thorkelson of Lundar; and one brother John of Lundar; also many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter Tracey in 1985; and two brothers, Mickey and Albert. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lundar Lutheran Church, with Rev. Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar cemetery. Everyone in attendance can consider themselves honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dr. Neil Burnett, nurses and staff at the Eriksdale Hospital for the loving care given to Oli and the family.
