WILHELMINA (MINNIE) MCDONALD DULAKE (nee VAN TOEVER) Min passed away peacefully at Sunnywood Manor, Pine Falls on April 19, 2002, at the age of 90 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Don and wife Tanis, and Bryan and wife Diane; one brother Barnett (Bart) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandma to four grandchildren; Kim and husband Tim, Dean and wife Heather, Lee and husband Gardiner, and Scott and fiancee Gail; and to six great-grandchildren; Carrie and Katelyn, Tanner and Reed, Taylor and Madison. Min was predeceased by her husband Bill and her husband Jack; her parents, Wilhelmina and Edward; her brothers, Gerret, William and Edward; her sisters, Antoinette (Nettie) and Christina (Chrissie) and her twin sister Yentina (Tuni). Min was born on April 27, 1911, in North Kildonan. Her early years were spent on the farm near Clarkleigh with her family. She moved to Central Manitoba Mines in 1929 with her sisters to help her brother operate a poolroom, laundry and lunch counter, but she soon left for Winnipeg to take a hairdressing and barbering course. She returned to the mines and stayed at Central until 1932, then moved to San Antonio where she met her future husband, Bill McDonald. They were married in 1934 and enjoyed wonderful years in Bissett. In 1941 they moved to Pine Falls and aside from a stay in Winnipeg during the war, spent their remaining years together there and in Silver Falls. They welcomed many visitors to "THE CABIN". Bill died in 1974. Min married Jack Dulake in 1986. Jack died in 1995. Min loved cooking knitting, gardening, golfing, curling, and travelling. She particularly enjoyed a trip to Switzerland to the Silver Broom, and to Holland to visit family members. She was an active member of the Pine Falls community: a long time member of the United Church Women and The Order of the Eastern Star. For the past seven and a half years Min has lived with Alzheimers as part of the Sunnywood Manor Family. Words cannot express the gratitude felt by the family for the compassionate and loving care that she has received from the staff there. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the Pine Falls United Church. Private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Min may be made to Sunnywood Manor residents Council, Pine Falls, MB, ROE 1MO. Mom .. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mrs McDonald allowed me to share her Silver Falls home when I arrived for my first posting with the RCMP in 1977-78. She was more than a landlord, and treated me like a friend or a family member. She was kind to my parents when they came to visit during the summer of 1978. To this day, I think of her often and still have the felt 'slippers' she gave me in 1978. Mrs McDonald was always on the go - to the golf course or curling club, to see friends, or wherever. She sometimes invited me upstairs for dinner of meat pies covered in mushroom soup that I will never forget. One of her neighbours in Silver Falls was Mr Sunde, who was a fine gentleman. I lost contact with Mrs McDonald after being transferred later in 1978, but gather from the obituary that she re-married in 1986. I hope she was happy. She was a strong, kind person who often talked about her family, and I had the opportunity to meet her granddaughter Kim once. Thank you for everything Mrs McDonald - I will not forget you.
