EDITH MARGUERITE BALFOUR Peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Boundary Trails Hospital, Ede Balfour passed away at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband Dave in 1988; and by her only child, a son, Murray in 1948 at the age of four years. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Arthur, Keith and Russell; by her sister Alice Miller; and by her nephew Wayne Burrows. As well she was predeceased by Daves sisters, Margaret, Barbara, Betty, Jean and Clara. She is survived by her niece Sylvia and Hans Fischer of Hamilton, ON; nephew Stanley Burrows of Hamilton; nephew Bill and Judy Burrows of Unionville, ON; niece Marjory and Bill Hanley of Calgary, AB; nephew Bob and Sally Miller of Salmon Arm, BC; nephew Don and Doreen Miller of Carmangay, AB. Also left to mourn her passing are two sisters-in-law, Belle Babcock and Hannah Preston as well as many other family members and close friends. Ede (Burrows) was born in Killarney, MB. She moved to the Manitou area and married Dave Balfour in 1941. They farmed south of Manitou until 1979 when they moved to town. Ede was a very talented gardener and she had a particular love of growing flowers. She was very active in the Horticultural Society and a judge at many district flower shows. Ede moved into the Manitou Apartments in 1992 and into the Pembina Manitou Personal Care Home in 1998. She enjoyed her friends and family and will be remembered for her sense of humour and her unique expressions. Her friends and family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Personal Care Home for caring for Ede over the last few years. As well we would like to thank the staff at the Boundary Trails Health Centre for their kindness and care to Ede over the last two weeks. A special thank you to Helen Seward who has provided immeasurable support and assistance to Ede over the last several years. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Pembina Manitou Personal Care Home, 232 Carrie St., Manitou, MB, R0G 1G0 or to CancerCare Manitoba. At Edes request cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service at the Manitou Cemetery on Friday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the Manitou Friendship Centre immediately after the service. Grahams Funeral Home Pilot Mound 1-204-825-2848 is in charge of arrangements.
