ROY SKRABYK Peacefully, in the late afternoon hours of Saturday, April 13, 2002, our Roy passed away. He was 86 years old. He leaves the following, with a treasure chest full of memories: Mary, his wife of 61 years; daughter Linda (Dave) sons, Leonard (Bev), Bill (Sharon), and Larry (Renata) grandchildren, Kevin, Shannon, Ryan, Erin, Morris, and Tekla; great-grandchildren, Paige and Riley; brothers, Fred, Walter (Kay) and sister Antonia; stepbrothers, Walter (Marsha), and Fred; and numerous other relatives and friends that were, in one way or another, an important part of his entire life. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Tekla; brothers, John, Harry, Tony, Nick; stepfather John Skomoroh; and grandson Dwaine Skrabyk. Born on February 6, 1916, in Hamrlik, MB, he spent most of his entire working life farming, maintaining a business at the same time, working away from home, during the hard times, dedicating himself, entirely, to the well being of his family. He still found time to hunt, fish, go to bingo, pick mushrooms and berries. Cutting cord wood for the winter was one of his great joys, and at this time, he would always keep his eyes open for one of the fine Christmas trees that he would always bring home. He enjoyed the simple things, after he retired. Being a grandfather, walk around the flowers in the yard, take pictures of anything that happened, fix anything that was broken, listen to "the polka party", cook his great Chinese dishes and sit in the shade in a lawn chair. A very private, humble and independent man he was. He never complained and met the trials in his life with quiet acceptance. He was one of very few words, but all the caring things he did, in his lifetime, showed his love for us, in his own quiet way. We will miss him dearly. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Poplarfield Community Centre. Arrangements in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Fisher Branch, MB. 1-204-372-6271.
