GEORGE EDWARD SMITH June 14, 1914 - April 16, 2002 Peacefully, on April 16, 2002, George E. Smith passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Yvonne Marie (Magne), October 10, 1999; his parents; his brother Jack; sisters, Eileen, Margaret, Jean and Alice. George will be fondly remembered and loved by his daughter Eileen, her husband Sid Thompson and beloved granddaughter Julie Thompson; his brother Don and wife Gwen; his brother-in-law John Magne and sister-in-law Louise Magne; and many nieces and nephews. George was born in Winnipeg and raised in the North End. He attended Immaculate Conception School and Church. He worked for Sherwin Williams Paint Co., and was a member of the "Old Guard" and retired after 43 years. He spent many years fishing and hunting in the Big Whiteshell Lake, later moving to Black Bear on the Lee River and finally at Lac du Bonnet with his daughter and son-in-law. Special thanks to niece Odele Campbell of Carman, who always had an open door. Thanks to Whitemouth Personal Care Home staff, volunteers and residents for their love and care and Dr. Nels for his support and also to the doctors and staff on the 5th and 7th floors at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Rev. Fr. Martin Houston officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georges memory to Whitemouth Personal Care Home, Womens Auxiliary, P.O.
