STELLA HUYDA Peacefully after a long illness, on April 19, 2002 at Riverview Health Centre, Stella passed away at the age of 89. She was born in the village of Sadegura, Bukovina, Western Ukraine, on August 21, 1912. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 10 in 1923, where she settled with her parents, John and Antonina Serotinski. Stella married Michael Huyda on November 14, 1936, and together began their life in Winnipeg. Stella worked at the Fort Garry Hotel and Municipal Hospitals, where she retired at the age of 65. Stella was a hard worker and possessed a heart of gold. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and was a very generous person. Her devotion and kindness to her family will always be cherished. Predeceased by her parents and husband Michael. Stella is survived by her son Dennis (Shirley) of Winnipeg and daughter Barbara McGinn (Steve) of Maitland, FL. She also leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Michael and Christopher. Special thanks to the nurses and support staff at Concordia Hospital 3E Wing and Riverview Health Centre, 2W Wing, for their care and compassion. A special thanks to Dr. I. Mohammed for his care and concern for Mom over the years. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
