DOROTHY IRENE McDOUGALL Peacefully in her sleep, on Sunday, April 21, 2002, Dorothy McDougall passed away at Victoria General Hospital, after a short illness. Dorothy was born to John Norman Waverley Elkington and Bertha Mary Stott on April 19, 1914 in Spy Hill, SK. She was the eldest of three children and her father, being a school teacher, lived in many small communities in Saskatchewan. Dorothy went to Normal School and following her beloved fathers footsteps, became a teacher. This occupation brought her to Kamsack, SK, where she met and married Gerald Sidney McDougall on January 15, 1944. Their only child, a daughter, Carol Lynne, was born in Kamsack on April 7, 1945. Dorothy was very gifted both in voice and piano and was very involved in the music of the community, teaching music lessons, singing in the church choir and at weddings. John Davies, formerly of Kamsack, now of Regina, was her prized pupil. She was also very gifted in knitting, crocheting and tatting. She and her family spent many happy years at Madge Lake, SK. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served as Worthy Matron and District Deputy for Hiawatha Chapter in Kamsack. She later transferred her membership to Kelowna, BC. She and Gerry moved to Winnipeg from Kamsack in 1962, where he retired from the CNR. In 1977, they decided to move to Kelowna where they spent many happy years, taking many trips and tours with the CN Pensioners. Gerry passed away in 1989 at the age of 84 years. In 1999, Dorothy moved back to Winnipeg, residing at Amber Meadows and The Waverley. She was predeceased by her father in 1959, Gerry in 1989 and her mother in 1989 as well. She is survived by her daughter Lynne (Rodger) of Killarney, granddaughters, Paige (Brian) Loeppky of Winnipeg, Tiffany (Todd) McCracken of Sudbury; grandsons, Brook Hagberg of Flin Flon, MB and Brett Hagberg and fiancee Lana Asmundson of Winnipeg; great-granddaughters, Courtney McCracken and Logan Loeppky; and great-grandson Connor McCracken; brother Harry Elkington of Swift Current; and sister Kay Hargreaves of Saskatoon; as well as five nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Donations may be made in Dorothys name to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
