ANTON (TONY) WIENS February 18, 1922 - April 20, 2002 Peacefully, after many courageous battles, Dad succumbed to his illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Amy, on May 21, 1969. Dad was born and raised near Grunthal in southeast Manitoba, and was one of 14 children. He was proud of his service with the Regina Rifles in the Second World War. He retired after 27 years with Winnipeg Transit to his "slice of heaven" - his cottage at Bird River. Tony had many friends of all ages who would always be welcome to stop in for a drink, a game of crib, or a few fishing tips. He loved to read and spent many hours watching and feeding his birds. He is survived by his children, Sandra (Brian), Leona (Art), Les (Terry) his six grandchildren, Jonas and Megan, Shelley and Amy, Jarrad and Dana; as well as four great-grandchildren and special family members, Cathi, Jim, Garrity and Gavin. Many thanks go to all of his caregivers, especially his close friends and neighbours who have been such a great support. Thanks to Dr. Campbell, the staff at Beausejour Hospital, and his home care support team. You were wonderful to Dad and all of us. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 24, 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Centre, 2nd floor, Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the Lac du Bonnet Legion Branch #164, P.O. Box 777, Lac du Bonnet, MB, R0E 1A0 or to the Salvation Army, 500-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1L8.
