ROSS THOMAS GEORGE McBAIN 1926 - 2002 Ross Thomas George McBain passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2002, at the age of 75 years. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Maureen (Paul Babcock) sons, Hugh and Scott; as well as his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jordan Babcock, and Tucker McBain. He will also be missed by Stephanie McBain, Audrey Davidson and the Carson family, Pam, Mike, Shannon, Dave, Paul, Sherri, and their children. Ross was predeceased by his wife Rosemary Job McBain in 1992, and his wife Joan Carson McBain in 2000. Ross was born in Montreal, QC, on May 31, 1926. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Law degree from the Manitoba Law School. In 1945, he enlisted as aircrew in the Royal Naval Fleet Air Arm. While attending University, he joined the Canadian Officer Training Corps, becoming a Lieutenant in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, Winnipeg. After graduating, he left Winnipeg to come to Calgary where he practiced law with A.L. Barron Q.C. & Walter Barron Q.C., becoming a senior partner of the firm Barron McBain. In 1970 he was awarded the honour of Queens Counsel. Ross was also a member of the Senate of the University of Calgary. A major portion of Ross law practice was in the area of labour relations. In 1981, he was appointed Chairman of the Alberta Labour Relations Board. He remained in that position until 1983, when he was appointed a Justice of the Court of Queens Bench, Alberta. He retired in April, 2001. Ross lifelong passion was sailing, first on Glenmore Reservoir and later on the west coast, keeping a sailboat at Sidney, Vancouver Island. He was proud of being one of the very early members of the Glenmore Yacht Club, and the clubs second Commodore. It was Ross wish that there be no memorial service on his passing and that he be cremated and his ashes spread in the Pacific Ocean near his favourite sailing sites. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ross life on Wednesday, May 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Alberta Pioneers Foundation Memorial Building, 3625-4th Street South West, Calgary, AB.
