Born: Feb 08, 1917
Date of Passing: Apr 21, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ANGUS (BILL) TURNBULL Peacefully, at Pembina Place Mennonite PCH, with his daughters at his side, on April 21, 2002. Beloved husband of the late Noreen (January 17, 2002). Loving and much loved father and grandfather of Joy and her husband Gilles Laverdure, Erika and Livia of Montreal; Jill Crowell of Chicago; Jim and his wife Kim, Carter and Blaire of Denver; and Frank and his wife Peachey, Colin and Owen of Spokane. Also survived by his cousin, Rita Holmes, in Dundee, Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Margaret Turnbull and by his infant sister Margaret. Bill was born in Toronto on February 8, 1917. Music was an important part of his early years. He became an accomplished pianist and accordionist, performing with his childhood friend Percy Peppiatt. Their shared love of music sustained a lifelong friendship. Wartime duty brought Bill to Winnipeg where he met Noreen. They were married on October 13, 1943 after Bills return from England, where he served with the R.C.A.F. Dads military career took the family to Clinton and Trenton, ON, Gimli, MB, and Cold Lake, AB. Each new posting found Dad involved in a variety of sports activities, including baseball, bowling, skeet shooting and golf. It was during these years that he and Noreen developed their lifelong love of square and round dancing, which they reluctantly gave up in recent years. When Bills retirement brought them back to Winnipeg in 1968, he worked for Yamaha Music and Pioneer Electric. He indulged his passion for golf at the Crescent Drive Golf Club and enjoyed both cross-country skiing and curling. Dads greatest love was his family, always supporting and unselfishly giving to us. Dad had a warm heart and a likable nature, and his readiness to help when needed endeared him to others. He will be remembered by many in Winnipeg and across Canada. Special thanks is extended by the family to Bernice Passalis and Derek Barrit. A private family service will be held with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
