MARY ELEANOR BODNARCHUK (nee DOMANSKI) It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary at the Beausejour Hospital on Monday, April 22, 2002, surrounded by her family. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband Nicholas; son Alan and wife Sandi; granddaughter Leanne (Grant) Schmidt; grandson Cory Bodnarchuk and great-granddaughter Alexandra Schmidt; sisters, Helen (Roy) Budd of Cass Lake, MN and Julie Fain of White Rock, BC; brothers, Stanley (Adele) Domanski of Garson, MB, Joe (Eileen) Domanski and Walter (Verna) Domanski, both of Winnipeg, MB; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter Elizabeth; parents, Anna and Anton Domanski and brothers, John and Frank Domanski. Mary was born on January 14, 1916, in Highland Glen, MB. She married Nick Bodnarchuk on October 2, 1938, in St. Michaels Church, Tyndall, MB While Nick worked at Hannahs Garage, Mary ran a hot dog stand. In 1943, they purchased the Tyndall Corner, as it was known then, which consisted of a garage, hot dog stand and five small residences. In 1945, they built a grocery store, with attached living quarters. After many years of running a store and a garage, the store was sold and a new home was built just down the road in 1955. Hard work was no stranger to these two. After years of being a homemaker, Mary decided to take a typing course and worked during Christmas rush at Eatons Mail Order. Always being a people person, she then decided to take courses which enabled her to assist special needs students in the Beausejour Elementary School. Shortly thereafter, ARC Industries was started and Mary jumped at the chance to work with these special people. She was affectionately known by them as Mrs. B. After 13 years, she retired in order to spend more time at the cottage at Nutimik Lake and do a little bit of travelling. They spent many winters being Brownsville, Texas snowbirds. Special lasting friendships were made during this time. In 1988, they moved to Beausejour, to their home on Gertrude Avenue, where she resided until the time of her death. Mary was a member of the CWL all of her married life. She would help out in any way she could - be it cleaning the church, baking for a tea or cooking for a dinner until her health did not allow her to do so. Mary was an amazing cook, and prided herself in hiding shredded carrots in almost everything she made! Sometimes it took a while for us to find them, but they were there. No one ever left her home without having something to eat. She loved her grandchildren dearly and took a special interest in everything they did. Her absolute greatest joy was her great-granddaughter, Alex. She felt very blessed to have had the chance to share the last five years with her. Our lives will forever be changed for the better for having known this special lady. Prayers will be said on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, Beausejour. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Marys Church, with Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves presiding. Interment will follow in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her two grandsons, Cory Bodnarchuk and Grant Schmidt; her nephew Scotty Bodnarchuk and great-nephews, Rick Domanski, Bob Domanski and Jim Domanski. We are so grateful for the special long-term care given by Dr. F. Zeiler and the wonderful group of people at the Beausejour Hospital who constantly amazed her with their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may send a donation in Marys name to the Beausejour Hospital, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB, ROE OCO. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, Beausejour 268-3510 or Man.
