CLARE ALEXANDER GALLOWAY Clare Alexander Galloway passed away April 22 at Third Crossing Manor, Gladstone, MB at the age of 78 years, after a struggle for many years with Parkinsons Disease. Clare was born December 13, 1923 at Neepawa, MB to Peter and Ethel Galloway of Wellwood, MB. In 1932 the family moved to Pine Creek where he attended Ellwood School. In 1943 he enlisted in the army, serving overseas with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. In October of 1946, he married Peggy Stewart and the couple farmed at Pine Creek for a time. Here their son David was born. Later they moved to Cavendish, AB where they were in business and then back to Manitoba spending a number of years farming. They had two daughters, Maureen and Jo-Anne while on the farm. In 1964 he became manager of the Golden Stream Elevator for Federal Grain until the company was purchased by Manitoba Pool. In 1973 he and his wife became bulk fuel agents for Shell Canada Ltd. in Gladstone until their retirement in 1987. Clare enjoyed golfing, fishing, curling, bowling and playing cribbage. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Gladstone Branch for many years and a very active member until his health caused him to be less involved. He was a life member of the Gladstone Elks and interested in community activities. Clare was predeceased by his father Peter in 1961 and his mother Ethel in 1987 as well as his brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Georgina Stewart and sister-in-law, Catherine Stewart. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy of 55 years; a son David (Allison) of Estevan, SK and their sons, Bill Galloway (Aya) and great-granddaughter Mia and Rick Galloway all of Japan; daughter Maureen (Don) Cox of Neepawa, MB; grandchildren, Jennifer and Will Cox; daughter Jo-Anne (Larry) Campbell of Arden; grandchildren, Chad and Jodi Campbell. Clare is also survived by his sister June Stewart and husband Earl of Gladstone; a brother Keith Galloway and wife Vera of Dawson Creek; brother-in-law Jack Stewart of Portage la Prairie; Aunt Wilma Fleger of Neepawa, MB as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends. Funeral service will be held in Gladstone United Church, Gladstone, MB on Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Blair Whyte officiating. The service will include Sherry Hanna and Joyce McCaskill with an instrumental duet, Catherine Smith as soloist and Roy Middleton as piper. Glenn McCaskill and Ernie Tester will act as ushers. Pallbearers will be Gerald McGowan, Bob Olson, Garth Peter, Don Kinley, Con Gardiner and Frank Hunter. Honourary pallbearers will be members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 110 and Ladies Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Gladstone Legion Housing Trust Account, Box 701, Gladstone, MB, R0J 0T0, to the Gladstone Community Benefit Fund, Box 25, Gladstone, MB, R0J 0T0, to the Parkinsons Foundation or to a charity of ones choice.
