Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDRE HENRY JOSEPH MARTEL September 4, 1924 - April 21, 2002 Peacefully at the Pine Falls Hospital, Pine Falls, MB, Andre Martel aged 77 years, beloved husband of Mary Martel of Fort Alexander, MB. Besides his loving wife he leaves to cherish his memory his children, Lawrence, Andre Jr., William (Hilda), Ivy (Leo), Larry (Noreen), Barry (Roxanne), and Eugene; as well as numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Andre also leaves his brothers, Gus and Adrien; and a sister Edna Mortlock. He was predeceased by parents, Amelia and Joseph Martel; by his brothers, Albert, Evangelist, Noel, George, Marcel; by sisters, Mary Norris and Olive Lafournaise; and his mother-in-law Flora Canard. Andre served his country in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1944 to 1953. He was stationed in Germany, Holland and later in Korea. He was in the 2nd and 3rd Division of the Queens Own Rifle Camerons of Canada and the Winnipeg Rifles Occupation Army. He was awarded the Canadian Service Medal, Special Service Medal, Korea Service Badge and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Andre worked for the Abitibi Price Paper Mill for 27 years as a Pulp Cutter and retired in 1981. Wakes services will be held at the Christ Church Anglican beginning Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m., also from the church, with Rev. Nancy Bruyere officiating. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry McAuley and George Bruyere. Pallbearers will be Barry Canard, Eugene Canard, Eric Canard, Winola Canard, Terence Canard and George Canard. The family would like to thank Dr. A. Mare and the staff of the Pine Falls Hospital for the care and patience they provided to Andre and also to the Sagkeeng Health Centre and Home Care Program.
