ANNE CROTHERS CALDER (nee McCORMICK) Anne Crothers Calder passed away at Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on April 22, 2002 in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Rev. Anne was born in Winnipeg, where she was a superb athlete and scholar. She attended United College and the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1935 with a B.A. in English and certification in Education. With Alex, she actively fulfilled her role as ministers wife in their churches at Silverton, MB (1939 - 1942), Sioux Lookout, ON (1942 - 1946), St. James, Winnipeg (1946 - 1951), Weyburn, SK (1951 - 1957) and Victoria, BC at Oak Bay United and Metropolitan United (1957 - 1989). She also contributed her administrative skills and time to the library of the Victoria Conservatory of Music (1973 - 1979). On retiring from teaching, she began a new career working at James Bay Lodge until 1990. She then began to volunteer with the Oak Bay Emergency Team where she was the Social Services Director. She touched many lives through the church, her teaching, her emergency work and the Alumni of the University of Winnipeg. She never lost her optimism and enthusiasm for life. Anne wanted to live to be 100 and we all thought she would do it! She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. A memorial service will be held at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson Street at Vancouver Street in Victoria, BC on Monday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Flowers are gratefully declined; those who wish may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Victoria Visiting Library or the Oak Bay Emergency Program. Many thanks to Dr. Hammell and to the nurses and doctors at Jubilees Coronary Care Unit for the care they gave to Anne and the family. Condolences may be made at www.mccallbros.com
