Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUDREY LOIS LEADER (nee THOMPSON) May 24, 1952 - April 25, 2002 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side, Audrey went home to be with Jesus. Audrey was born on May 24, 1952. She was the first community health worker assigned to Fairford in 1973. She was promoted to the position of CHR Advisor in 1976. During this time she travelled extensively to the remote areas throughout Manitoba. She was one of the first successful role models for the youth of her community. She served on many committees to advocate for her people and was instrumental in the advancement of the health care system on First Nations Reserves. She also worked closely with the University of Manitoba and the Health Sciences Centre in providing better care for all Aboriginal People. She continued to work in the health care field until her illness. Audrey lived her life to the fullest. She was an achiever and did her best in whatever she chose to do. Her family was her finest treasure. She gave unconditionally. The love she bestowed was immeasurable. Audreys strong spirit and concern for others was evident even in the final moments of her life. Audrey will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Lance; daughter Luana (Carl), grandson Chancellor; son Clifford; her parents, Roy and Priscilla Thompson; brother Stanley (Myrtle), Stanley Jr. (Yolanda), Stephen (Cherie), Athena (Stacey), Norma (Terrence), Gaylene (Desmond) and 14 grandchildren; sister Rhoda, Stephanie, Blair (Michelle), Blaine (Angel), four grandchildren; sister Sarah (Gerry), Clayton; sister Florence (Bill), Andreas, Adam, Leah; her sister-in-law Vicki (Richard) McDuff, Randy (Bridgette), Sherri (Paul), Sean (Tracey) brother-in-law Val (Sarah), Brandwin (David), Olivia; her aunts and uncles, Steve McLean, Ida McLean, Ruth (Joe) Anderson, Allan (Dorothy) Thompson, Christina Anderson, Ruby Chartrand, Eileen (Albert) Stagg, and Mildred (Donald) Gould; also two sisters, Sarah Plantz and Shirley LaPlante. Audrey was predeceased by her grand-parents, aunts and uncles: Edward, Alex, Louis, Stanley Thompson, Victoria Letandre, Noel, Allan, George McLean, Lizzie McLean, Bella Shorting, Marianne Sinclair, Irene Letandre, Eva McLean, Louisa Sumner, Sylvia Thompson and great-nephew Anson. Prayers will be said on Saturday, April 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Ashern Gospel Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Helens Anglican Church in Fairford, with Fr. Ron McCullough officiating. Interment will take place at St. Helens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Stanley Thompson Jr., Stephen Thompson, Clayton Thompson, Blair Thompson, Blaine Thompson, and Randy McDuff. Crossbearer will be her nephew Andreas Thompson. Special thanks to Dr. Wong, St. Boniface Hospital and staff, Dr. Marais and staff at Lakeshore General Hospital. Also thanks to the Little Saskatchewan Band and to all those who express their care and concern during this time. We thank Granny Priscilla, Grandpa Roy, sisters, Rhoda, Sarah and Florence, brother Stanley and niece Daphne for the special care that was given to Audrey which allowed her more precious time to remain at home with her family.
