DOROTHY MALENKO 1934 - 2002 On Tuesday, April 23, 2002, Dorothy Malenko, aged 67 years, passed away peacefully at her home in Sundown with her loving family by her side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dorothy was born in Sirko on December 23, 1934, where she grew up on her parents farm. In 1954 she married John Malenko, also from Sirko, where they settled, farmed, and raised five children. After Johns passing, she continued farming and raising the family. She was an active member of the church and served as president of the womens club for several years. She enjoyed baking, decorating Easter eggs and listening to country music. She took great pride in her garden, yard and flower beds, which she worked in throughout her latter years despite her illness. She was a loving and generous lady, mother and Baba, who never let anyone leave her house empty handed. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John in 1971; parents John and Maria Boychuk; and brother Bill. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Marilyn (Jeffrey) Thompson, granddaughters, Jaylyn and Reegan; four sons, Bob (Wilma), granddaughter Dana, grandson Garrett; Allan (Joanne) Ken; and Barry; sister Ellen Podolsky; brothers, Nick (Nettie) Boychuk, George (Marie) Boychuk, John (Carole) Boychuk; sister-in-law Jean Boychuk. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Mary (George) Kutzak, Olga (Gerald) Beckman, Verna (Norman) Harrison, Betty (Cliff) Armstrong, Verna Malenko; brother-in-law Nick Malenko; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers will be said on Sunday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29, 10:30 a.m. at St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sirko, MB, with Rev. Fr. M. Pozniak and Rev. Fr. O. Naherniak officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. The family sends special thanks to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Cancer Care Unit, particularly Dr. P. Daeninck, Dr. P.
