LLOYD CHARLES VICTOR BARNES It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our dear father, grandfather great-grandfather, Lloyd Barnes, on April 27, 2002. Lloyd was born in Winnipeg on October 28, 1919. When he was a young boy, his family moved to a homestead in the Ashern Area. In 1944, he joined the army and after returning from the war, he married Chrissie Stout. They started their family in Eriksdale and then moved to Ashern to run a cafe and taxi business. Lloyd also drove a school bus and ambulance for many years. Lloyd loved his family. His grandchildren were one of his greatest joys in life. He was a kind and generous man, known for his sense of humour. Lloyd enjoyed making music with his brothers and sisters. He played the piano and the banjo and could often be seen dancing. At age 65, Lloyd received his pilots license. He loved to visit with people and tell stories about old times. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Ed (Barb) daughter Sharon; grandchildren, Sean (Kristine), Shannon, Kristi and Kelli (Ian) and great-grandson Mitchell; as well as his brothers, Allan, Tom (Florence) sisters, Thelma Anderson, Rae (Siggi) Sigurdson and Runa (Steini) Palsson; and many family members and friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his beloved wife, Chrissie; mother Runa; brothers, Bill, Leo and Claude; and sister Runa, in infancy. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Interment in the Eriksdale Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lee Isaacs, nurses and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for the care they gave to Lloyd and the kindness shown to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, care of Runa Mangl, Ashern, Box 591 MB R0C 0E0 "for use in the Palliative Care Unit".
