Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHHITUBHAI HARKISHANDAS MISTRY (Jai Ambe) With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved Bapuji (father) on Sunday, April 28, 2002 at Grace General Hospital, at the age of 87. He is joining our Baa (mother) Kashiben who passed away 10 years ago. Bapuji was born in the village Kana, of Gujarat, India on April 15, 1915 to his beloved parents, Harkishandas and Maniben Mistry. He had one sister Vasuben. He leaves to remember him his five children, Vajiyaben (Shankarlal), Hiralal (Pushpaben), Jagjivan (Urmila), Kishor (Sushila), and Usha (Pravinlal). Also mourning the loss of their grandfather are 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. India was one of four countries in which Bapuji lived his life. During the Second World War, he built truck bodies for the Indian Army. He later moved to Eldoret, Kenya where he worked for United Nations Grain Association. It was in Eldoret that he showcased his talents as an accomplished carpenter by constructing the chair that the late Queen Mother used during her visit to Kenya. Bapuji proudly boasted about this experience whenever he saw her on television. He left Kenya behind and moved to Leeds, England in 1970. He happily spent his time watching his families grow, always ready to give advice. He then decided to return to his family home in Chalthan, India, after the death of our Baa in 1992. He began a successful career as a businessman and landlord. As an avid letter writer, he kept the family well informed of his experiences. After suffering a heart attack in 1998, Bapuji made his way to Winnipeg, Canada where he spent the rest of his cheerful days. Bapuji was a well-respected member of all the communities he belonged to. He was deeply dedicated to his faith, committing much of his time to reading Devi Bhagavat and the Gita. He shared his wisdom with enthusiasm and honesty. On behalf of the Mistry family we would like to thank Dr. Vijayaraghava who was readily available to give medical advice and treatment for our Bapuji. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapels, Fort Garry, 1501 Waverley St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
