EILEEN LABEY Eileen M. Labey died peacefully at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg on Sunday, April 28, 2002. Predeceased by her brother Francis, sister Violet (Robertson) and niece Ann (Clements). She was the beloved aunt of Michael and Judy (Coulter), great aunt of Kim (Clements), Lori (Melkerson), David, Andrea and Marc (Coulter) and great-great aunt of Sydney and Isaac (Melkerson). She was born and raised in Stonewall, MB, spent most of her career as a nurse in the United States and returned to her roots in Manitoba after retirement. She served with U.S. Army 103rd Evacuation Hospital in Europe during Second Word War and after. She began her career as a nurse, became a battle field anaesthetist and was promoted to Captain near the end of the war when she was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service and devotion to duty, 4 Bronze Battle Stars, 3 O/S Service Bars and the Victory Medal. A memorial service to celebrate Eileens life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 3 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
