He will be remembered by his loving wife of 54 years and 10 months, Patricia (nee Truthwaite) his three children, Edith (Allan) Reimer of Winkler, Juliana (Gilbert) Gagnon of Dufresne, Fred (Colleen) Zelmer of Ile des Chenes; brothers, Roy of Nanaimo, BC and Emil of Lorette; sister, Margaret of Winnipeg; sister and brothers-in-law, Olie Zelmer of Winnipeg, William (Audrey) Truthwaite of Winnipeg, Lionel Truthwaite of Hodgson, David (Marjorie) Shepell of Stonewall; grandchildren, Victoria, Christjan, Charity, Chantal, Marjolaine, Ghislaine, Matthew, Erik, Rae-Ann and Nikolas; special grandniece Karie Rose; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of wonderful friends. William was predeceased by his brother Lenard in 1976 and sister Martha in 1999. William was born in Giroux, MB on January 30, 1921, to Fred and Elizabeth Zelmer, where he lived until eight years old, then he and his family moved to Ile des Chenes. He remained there most of his life, leaving only to serve in the Army for four years overseas during the Second World War, of which he took great pride. He enjoyed life to the fullest; he was a successful farmer always waiting for spring, ready to get on the land. He loved to work with the Cat and Scraper and he always had a joke or story to tell. Life for Bill was sometimes a bumpy road, but with the good and the bad we will miss you. There are no words to say how much. The family would like to thank Dr. Abbott and staff at St. Pierre District Health Centre, homecare workers and Bills comrades at Steinbach Legion No. 91. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service.
