SARA SUKKAU (nee JANZEN)

Offer Condolences or MemorySARA SUKKAU (nee JANZEN) On May 3, 2002 at Salem Home in Winkler, Sara Sukkau, formerly of Winnipeg, passed away at the age of 84 years. Sara was born January 5, 1918 in Russia to Abram and Anna Janzen (Unrau). In 1930 she immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in Arnaud, MB. On June 8, 1947 she was married to Henry Sukkau and farmed in the Arnaud area until their move to Winnipeg in the early 1950s. Following a stroke in 1996, Sara moved to her daughters home in Winkler and then to Salem Home in Winkler in 1998. Sara was predeceased by her husband Henry Sukkau in 1984; two sisters, Anna Koop and Mary Koop; one stepdaughter Elly Fast; and one son-in-law Harry Reimer. Sara is survived by one son, Robert (Erika) Sukkau of Peru; two daughters, Linda Reimer ofWinnipeg and Dorothy (Vic) Neufeld of Winkler; eight grandchildren, Raquel (Andrew) Kamphuis, Becky Sukkau, Brendan Neufeld, Toban Reimer, Joshua Neufeld, Matthew Neufeld, Blaine Neufeld and Tasha Reimer; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Jr. and Zachary Kamphuis. Sara is also survived by three stepsons, Harry (Hilda) Sukkau, Walter (Helen) Sukkau, John (Adina) Sukkau; one step-son-in-law Neil Fast and their families; two sisters, Helen Goertz and Rita Dyck; two brothers, Abe (Mary) Janzen and Pete (Olga) Janzen and many nieces and nephews. As a teenager, Mom enjoyed her years in Arnaud and learned the English language in school. She attended Winkler Bible School for one year and also took some sewing classes in Winkler. She was baptized in 1938 at the Arnaud, MB, church and became a member there. Following her move to Winnipeg she became a member of the Elmwood, MB, Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a daily vacation Bible school teacher and was actively involved in the ladies fellowship. She transferred membership to the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church in her later years. Mom thoroughly enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, baking, reading, and times with friends in Florida. Her gifts of encouragement to others, and hospitality were appreciated by many. She had a servant heart, and a humble spirit. She was deeply committed to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest desire was for them to follow the Lord. Mom will be greatly missed by her family. The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff at Salem Home, Winkler. Your compassionate care was appreciated more than words can say. Psalm 145:3&4 "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts." Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, Gateway and Springfield Road, Winnipeg. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing, Tuesday, May 7, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy.
