ALEXANDER KALANSKY After a brief illness, Alex peacefully passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002 with his loved ones by his side. He was predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth (Bessie) Cowan. Alex will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Debbie (Reg) Slessor and Gail (Larry) Banks; six grandchildren, Calvin, Julie, Allison, Kathryn, Ryan and David; special niece and nephew, Lois and Art Johnstone; other nieces, nephews; and many friends at the #9 Legion, where he was a lifetime member. Alex was born June 23, 1926 in East Kildonan, where he resided till such time he joined the army. Alex and Bessie were married and raised their family in East Elmwood. He was employed as a welder for Dominion Bridge then for C.N.R. before his retirement. Alex enjoyed life to the fullest. His latest hobby was photography. Gardening was his favourite pastime, each fall planning for a new spring. His love for animals has been instilled in his daughters, who shared in his rescue missions of lost and hurt animals. He was an avid supporter of the Winnipeg Humane Society and would spend time visiting with the animals. The family wish to thank the staff at the Concordia Hospital, 3rd Floor. According to Dads wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Alexs memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, R2L 1X3.
