Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK LORNE KNOWLES It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of Frederick Lorne Knowles on May 4, 2002. Fred leaves to mourn his two sons, Bruce (Sandy) and Keith (Yvonne) of Winnipeg; daughter Deborah (Dennis) Truscott of Victoria, BC; daughter-in-law Geraldine of Surrey, BC; granddaughters, Kristie and Lindsay of Surrey, BC, Shannon Alderdice of New Westminster, BC, and Anna of Winnipeg; great-granddaughters, Olivia and Paige of Surrey, BC; brother Jack (Patricia) of Winnipeg; sisters, Ruth (Percy) Sarahs of Winnipeg and Irene (John) Downey of Calgary, AB; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Mona, in June 1989; his parents, Robert and Lavina; brother Eldred in 1988 and sister Eleata Kilberry in 2001. Fred was born in Souris, MB on October 28, 1918. The family moved to Winnipeg when Fred was at an early age. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1937. He served as a Sergeant overseas with R.C.E.M.E. during the Second World War. Fred was employed with the City of Winnipeg Works and Operations Department as a mechanic and supervisor from 1948 to 1983. Fred loved spending time with family and friends, golfing and curling. He was a life member of the Canadian Elks Winnipeg Lodge No. 10, where he gave many years of service. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. James Branch No. 4. Fred will always be remembered for his patience, kindness, sense of humour and willingness to help family and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Grace Hospitals Emergency and MICU and St. Boniface Hospitals MICU and SICU for the excellent care given to Dad in his final days and a special thanks to Dr. K. Warrian of St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Elks Purple Heart Fund at 100 - 2629 29th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4S 2N9, in Freds name. Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow.
