THOMAS BOOMER 1918 - 2002 The family and friends of Thomas Boomer are grateful for the life of their father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, a journey that came to a peaceful and dignified end on May 6, 2002 at the Riverview Health Centre. Tom fought his illness with the same grace and good humour that made him such a favourite with the Fred Douglas Adult Day Program - Monday group. Survived by his sisters, Emily and Clara; and brothers, Gordon and Robert. Tom was a proud family man. He leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Tom Boomer Jr. (Pam), Helen Short (Earl), Lesley Lavallee (Phil), Nancy Boomer, and Katy Dann (Bob) eight grand-children, seven great-grandchildren and many friends. Born and educated in Winnipeg, Tom proudly served his country in the Second World War as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy. It was during this period that he married the love of his life, Violet Elek. Together, they raised five children and many pets. As a couple, they were a popular part of an extraordinary neighbourhood, still remembered with love and laughter. Violet passed away in 1987 and Tom spent the rest of his life missing her. Their family takes comfort knowing they have been reunited once again. Tom retired from CNR/VIA Rail in 1982 after more than 40 years of service. He spent many happy times with family and friends, often leading lively discussions on a variety of subjects, including sports, music and current events. Special thanks to the staff of 3 East at Riverview for their outstanding care and compassion. Your many kindnesses will always be remembered. A celebration of Toms life will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Rev. Tony Maunder will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Toms memory may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation in support of the Palliative Care Unit (3 East), 1 Morley Place, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or to a charity of choice. As Dad liked to say, Bye for Now." Till we meet again... CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
