JOSEPH (DOUGLAS) GARDNER Peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 7, 2002, Doug passed away at home with his loved ones at his side after a prolonged illness. Predeceased by parents, Bernard and Bridget and brother Harry. Doug leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Bertha; son Dr. Douglas Gardner; daughters, Annmarie McNeal and Karen (David) Nyhof; grandchildren, Chelsea and Quinn Gardner, Sterling and Kyle McNeal, and Lane and Lukas Nyhof. Also left to mourn is brother Jim (Anne) sisters, Bernice (Frank), Mary, Anne (Ken) and sister-in-law Eileen. Born in 1934 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, Doug joined the Canadian Air Force and traveled extensively with his family throughout his service. He had a unique sense of humour and took pleasure in his grandchildren. Although Doug was geographically separated from his Newfoundland roots, it was never far from his heart. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in memory of Joseph Gardner may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
