AGNES BARKMAN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Agnes Barkman, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach on May 8, 2002 at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her husband L.A. Barkman; her parents; an infant sister; one brother; and one sister-in-law. Agnes was born in Russia on December 18, 1919 and together with her family, moved to Canada in 1926, residing in western Manitoba, then Ste. Anne, and finally settling in Steinbach. On December 22, 1945, Agnes married Leonard A. Barkman. They shared 33 years together before his passing on January 5, 1979. Agnes is survived by one son Wayne (Rose Born) three daughters, Elaine (John) Toews, Audrey, Beve (Gary) Kehler; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Sonya) Reimer, Jake (Mary) Reimer; and sister Annie (Aaron) Suderman. Mom led a healthy life until breaking her hip in 2000, requiring replacement hip surgery. Recovering, she continued to live on her own on Ash Street, with her childrens assistance until entering the hospital on Thursday, May 2. Moms greatest joys in life included her children, grandchildren, and a favorite passion, gardening. The family would like to thank Dr. Garba and nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for their compassionate care. Funeral service will be held on May 11, 2:00 p.m. at the Mennonite Brethern Church, 340 - 2nd St. Steinbach, with Pastor Abe Klassen officiating. Interment to follow at the Memorial Cemetery. Friends may pay their last respects at Loewen Funeral Chapel, #12 Hwy. South, Steinbach on May 10, 8:00 - 9:00 p.m., and at the church prior to the service.
