RONALD FREDRICK SMITH Peacefully, on May 10, 2002 our father passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Ron had a lengthy fight with cancer that ended his 77 year life. He was predeceased by his parents, Merritt and Elizabeth; his sister Norma; and his son James. Ron is survived by his daughters, Ronalee (Eric), Norma (Brent) and Jill; his sons, Bruce (Janice), Geoffery and Jack (Tammy) their mother Doris Smith and his sister, Kathaleen (Floyd) Lovelace. Dad was also a grandfather to Chris (Joella), Kori (Mike), Tyler, Elizabeth, Danielle, Gallagher, Gavin, Erin, Brandyn and Rebecca, plus having a great-grandchild, Kindra. Dad is also mourned by his friend Audrey Foulkes. Ron was born on a small farm near Elton, MB June 9, 1924 and moved to Elmwood when he was five. He joined the Navy and after the war he became a sales representative for Imperial Tobacco, which moved Dad to The Pas, Dauphin, Brandon and Winnipeg, until he retired in 1983. Dad enjoyed his years as a sales rep. and all the travelling he got to do and the friends he made. Ron was a member of the North West Commercial Travellers Association. When Dad retired in Lac du Bonnet, he enjoyed the small town, outdoor life. The friends it brought, the dog he owned, the lake and his home with all its projects. He became a volunteer ambulance driver and joined the Masonic Lodge of Pine Falls. Dad was also a volunteer driver for Masons cancer patients. The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff of the Concordia Hospital. Dad appreciated your care and enjoyed the humour and support that you shared with him. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations would be graciously accepted by the Canadian Cancer Society. You touched alot of hearts in your lifetime Dad, you were always there to lend a helping hand and your love will be remembered forever...
