KENNETH GERALD ANDRICH
Date of Passing: May 11, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH GERALD ANDRICH Ken passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at his home in Winkler, at age 53. He was predeceased by his mother Nellie in 1979; his brother Fred also in 1979 and his father Walter (Bud) in 1996. He leaves to mourn his sister Debbie of Winnipeg and his brother Richard, his wife Deb (nee Walker) and their children, David, Kevin, Robert, all of Winnipeg and Alex (Tara) and great-niece Jasmine of Halifax. He will long be remembered for his kindness, caring and compassion for others along with his ability to make friends. Ken was born in Winnipeg in 1949 and grew up with his family in Fort Rouge until his mothers passing. He attended Kinsmen School, then worked at Arch Industries and Skills Unlimited until he moved to Winkler in 1982. In Winkler he worked for Gateway Resources in recycling. Every summer Ken went to Moose Lake Camp which he talked about year-round. He always spent Christmas and Easter in the city with his family and visited often. His passions were music, football (the Blue Bombers) and riding his bike. He was also very proud of his two medals, a gold and a silver, he had won at the Special Olympics in 2000 and 2001. He was always passionate for planes and trains and had a large collection of models, books and magazines on the subjects. Ken would always go out of his way if he saw someone hurt or sad and would speak to them, ask them about their problems and tell them everything would be all right. He was a good ambassador for all people who are mentally challenged. The friends he made remembered and loved him for life. Some of them took careers assisting people with mental challenges and others learned to accept people with disabilities throughout their lives, as our family and friends have. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kens name may be made to Gateway Resources, Box 1448, Winkler, MB R6B 4B4 where Ken worked, and Special Olympics or to any non-profit charity which assists people with disabilities. A service will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Winkler Verbthaler Church, 252-6th Street, Rev. John Klassen officiating. An interment ceremony will be held in Winnipeg at a date to be announced later. Arrangements entrusted to Wiebes Winkler Funeral Home. Phone 1-204-325-4201.
