MERVIN CHARLES MCKAY 1929 - 2002 Mervin passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2002 at Rock Lake Hospital, Crystal City, MB. He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Kimberly Diane McKay and Ronald Woroby, Tracy Lynn McKay; sisters, Neita Avery, Ruby and Wilbert Hammond; brother Jack and Marion McKay; brother-in-law Wayne Argue and Anna McEachern; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife Ruth Lillian (Johnson) parents, Douglas and Violet McKay; and sister Shirley Argue. Mervin was born on December 2, 1929 at his grandparents home near Pilot Mound. He obtained elementary education at The Oaks Schools and completed high school in Pilot Mound; received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, 1951 and Masters Degree in Soils and Economics, 1965 at the University of Manitoba. He worked with the Department of Agriculture as Ag Rep in Baldur, Soils Specialist in Brandon, then moving to Winnipeg with Manitoba Department of Mines and Natural Resources as Director of Canada Land Inventory and Land Use Coordinator, then Manitoba Department of Northern Affairs as Director of Special Programs and Director of Wildlife Branch and Deputy Minister for the Department of Renewable Resources, Government of Yukon. Returning to Winnipeg he formed his company Resource Initiatives Ltd. working with Island Lake Tribal Council and other land contracts. Mervin had a close knit family, many friends and business associates. The family events included summers at Clear Lake, trips home to Pilot Mound, and open house for family and friends, and winters in Mazatlan, Mexico. In 1999 he retired back home to his roots in Pilot Mound. Mervin will be sadly missed by all, and well remembered as an endearing man and friend to everyone he met. God saw you getting tired The cure was not to be, So He closed His arms around you, And whispered "Come to Me". You suffered much in silence, Your spirit did not bend, You faced your path with courage, Until the very end. You tried hard to stay with us, Your fight was all in vain, God took you to His loving home, And freed you from all pain. A lump forms deep within our chest, And tears begin to flow. If love could have saved you. You never would have died. Gods garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best.
