VALENTINA SIMEONIDIS (nee KOSTIS) With sadness, we announce the passing of Valentina Simeonidis (nee Kostis) on May 11, 2002 in Drama, Greece. Valentina was born in Greece in 1931 and immigrated to Canada in 1956. She married Lazaros Simeonidis shortly thereafter and they lived in Winnipeg from then until her passing. Valentina and Lazaros were blessed with two children, Natasa (1961) and Gregory (1964). Valentina was predeceased by her father Gregory in 1954 and her mother Anastasia in 1990. She is survived by her husband Lazaros, her daughter Natasa (Alex Robinson) and her son Gregory (Jodie Bradley). The light of her life was her three grandchildren, Laz, Kassie and Stephanie. These children were never very far from her heart or her mind and gave her immense joy, pride and satisfaction. Valentina is further survived by her sister Tania and her brother Dino and many beloved nieces and nephews. Valentina and Lazaros worked very hard to build a well-respected Winnipeg restaurant. Her fine cooking, welcoming manner and lively spirit made her one of the star attractions at the restaurant. It is because of her invaluable contributions the restaurant is the success it is today. Valentina was always extending a helping hand to everyone she met. Whether it was to assist a stranger in need or a close family member, she was always there. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives and she will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the dialysis ward for their care and compassion toward Valentina over the last year. According to her wishes, funeral services were performed in Drama, Greece on Tuesday, May 14. The 40-day service will be held in Greece. A service will also be held in Winnipeg after Lazaros return. The date will be announced at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 200-55 Donald St. We will miss you Yaya.
