MARGARET MAXINE HEYES (nee WANLESS) June 22, 1937 - March 10, 2002 Margaret passed away after a brief illness at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 64 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, sisters, Ethel (Jim Withers) of Wawanesa, MB, Ferne McCreight of Calgary, AB, Marion (Jim Hanks) of Pilot Mound, MB; sisters-in-law, Doris Barker and Irene Currie of Thunder Bay, ON and Blanch McCracken of Washago, ON, several nieces and nephews and neighbours and friends at the Legion Towers. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Donald Heyes; brother-in-law Denzil McCreight and her parents, Lloyd and Martha Wanless. Margaret was born and grew up at Belmont, MB where she received her education moving to Winnipeg in 1956 where she went to business school and became a secretary working for several companies over the years. She married Donald Heyes in 1957 and they lived in Winnipeg. They had no children of their own but they touched the lives of many children through the Legion Athletic Camp at the Peace Garden where they devoted a lot of their spare time, energy and talents to the Athletic Camp. She and Don travelled Canada extensively through their many activities with the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1991 they bought their retirement home at Winnipeg Beach. They lived there until 1999 when Dons illness forced them to return to Winnipeg where they lived until their deaths. Cremation has taken place and Margaret will be buried with Mom and Dad in the family plot at a graveside service in Hillside Cemetery, Belmont, MB on Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Doug Craig will officiate. A reception will follow in the Belmont Community Hall, everyone is welcome. Friends that so desire, memorial donations may be made in Margarets memory to the CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of their choice.
