ESTHER IRENE JOHNSON (nee CALDWELL) 1913 - 2002 Esther passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Charles Whitefield Johnson in 1988; and her eldest son Frank Caldwell Johnson in 1987. She is survived by her dear friend Ray Anderson of Winnipeg; her son Kenneth (wife Lois Jackson and their children, Megan and Alan of Halifax) daughter-in-law May (children Sigrid (Todd), Grant, and Kristin (Steve) of the USA) son Bruce of Winnipeg; sisters, Marion (husband Manse) of Virden, Dorothy of Waskada; and brother Sterling of Winnipeg; seven great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and dear friends. Esther was an elementary school teacher in many southern Manitoba towns and in Winnipeg. She was a strong figure within her large extended family and had many interests including crafts, bridge, reading and word puzzles. Many thanks to the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care program for their help in Esthers final days. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
