CAPTAIN LAVINA BERTHA RISBY (nee LARSON) Captain Lavina Bertha Risby (nee Larson) drifted off to sleep in her chair following her usual active day with her friends in her home at Joseph Creek Village in Cranbrook, BC, on Monday, May 13, 2002. Jesus came and took her hand and said, "Lavina your work on earth is done and you must come with me now". Lavina leaves her daughter Barbara Bowles (Knud Larsen) of Fernie; grandsons: Ron Bowles (Heather) of Ladner, BC, with their children, Josh, Julia and Jackson; Dan Bowles (Megan Thirlwell) of Calgary, AB; and Gordie Bowles (Kirsten Skarsgard) of Vancouver, BC. Lavina touched the lives of many and she had a special place for her friends in her hearts. Lavina was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Cliff, on October 27, 2001 and her brother Chester Larson of Cape Coral, FL in January 2002. Lavina was a bookkeeper for 19 years for Nelson River Construction in Winnipeg. Lavina and Cliff were active in the Salvation Army in Winnipeg and later moved to the U.S.A. and became Salvation Army Officers. Lavina was a loving Christian who loved life to the fullest and loved all the people in her life. Her life will be celebrated, and her memory precious, to all who loved her. A memorial service will be held at the Joseph Creek Village, 1901 Willowbrook Dr., Cranbrook, on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m., with Captain Ginny Kristensen. A memorial service will also be held at the Salvation Army in Fernie on Monday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Lavinas name to the Fernie or Cranbrook Salvation Army.
