CATHERINE ISABEL ULYATT (nee MacKENZIE) January 22, 1921 - May 15, 2002 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of Kay Ulyatt, surrounded by loved ones, at the Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary MacKenzie; and brother Norman. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 56 years, Clifford; son Norman (Marian) daughter Carol (Alex) Ord; grand-children, Janice (Darryl) Boch, Greg (Beckie) Ulyatt of High Wycombe, England, and Scott Ord; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley and Kyle Boch; also survived by sisters, Kae (Ken) Hansell and Lee Bruce; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was born on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Hebridies and immigrated to Winnipeg with her parents and siblings at the age of three. In later years she made several return trips to the old country. She grew up in the West End where she met and married Cliff. Kay was passionately proud of her Scottish heritage. A longtime member of the Gaelic Society, she participated in singing, dancing and learning her Scottish culture and language. She led an active social life, enjoying bowling, golfing at Niakwa Country Club, membership in the Ganderettes, volunteering at the St. Boniface Hospital gift shop and entertaining family and friends. Many will fondly remember Cliff and Kays annual Christmas Eve parties on McNaughton Avenue. Her knitting and baking skills were second to none - these, and travelling the world with Cliff were some of Kays favourite pastimes. Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved and was loved - nurturing us, filling our home with warmth and caring, a home where all of our friends were welcome at any time. We will miss her quick wit and generous nature. Her lifes lessons will continue to guide us. The family would like to send special thanks to Joyce and all the staff of the 5th floor at Victoria Hospital who cared for Mom during her final weeks. Their compassion and caring is greatly appreciated. Cremation and interment have taken place. A memorial service of Kays life will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Kays memory may be made to a charity of their choice. Those we love can never truly leave us We feel their presence like a gentle touch Whenever we remember moments shared and do again the things we love to do In so many ways they remain with us Their gentle spirit part of all we do and are.
