Date of Passing: May 17, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySARAH UNRAU (nee FROESE) 1921-2002 Sarah Unrau passed away peacefully on May 17, 2002, at Health Science Centre, with her family by her side. Sarah was born in Grigorievka, Russia in 1921 and immigrated to Canada in 1926. She taught in southern Manitoba from 1941 to 1956 in several one room school houses and was a substitute teacher in St. Vital School Division from 1966 to 1979, however she never really quit teaching and used every opportunity to create life experiences. She was predeceased by her parents, Abraham and Sara Froese; her husband Peter Unrau; and her sisters, Olga, Ellie and Katie. Sarah will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Lynda Unrau of Edmonton, Kathy (Nick) Vandenbogerd of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Paul (Janice) Thiessen of Calgary, Jordon (Aileen) Unrau of Edmonton, Nicole Vandenbogerd and great-grandchildren Keagan and Jaden, as well as her extended family Dawn and Tara Lundquist of Edmonton and close friends Ken and Kay Tidman. Sarah was a warm and caring person who touched the lives of everyone she knew. Her greatest love were her children. She so looked forward to the family get-togethers. She was a great seamstress, carrying on the tradition of sewing, crocheting and knitting. She has sewn many outfits for her girls at the spur of the moment with never a complaint. Many friends and family have her lovely afghans adorning their sofas. Sarah had a great sense of humour that helped her get through many hardships in her life and it especially helped us all cope with the last eight months. Thanks to all the nurses and staff at the Health Science Centre and SICU for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Elim Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB. Interment will follow in Gunthal Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. on Tuesday, May 21 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
