JOAO INACIO CARDOSO With deep sadness we announce on Saturday, May 18, 2002, Joao Inacio Cardoso, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. Joao was born on August 13, 1919 in Faja Grande, Flores, Azores, Portugal. He married Deolinda Rafael on March 1, 1947. He was a hard-working farmer and a gifted gardener in Faja Grande. Hard work was no stranger to him, having lost his father when he was only five. On October 10, 1979, he immigrated to Winnipeg, MB, Canada. In the years that followed, Joao and his wife helped his son and his family in many ways. Joao and his wife Deolinda helped raise their grandson John-Paul Cardoso. John-Paul was the "apple of his eye". He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend, who will be very deeply missed. Joao was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and an exemplary family man. He was a patient, kind and loving man. Joao was predeceased by his parents, Joao Inacio Cardoso Sr. and Maria Jose Cardoso; his brother Jose; and sisters, Maria, Adelaide, Irene, Luisa, and Ana. Joao will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 55 years, Deolinda; his son John; his grandson John-Paul and his mother Maria do Ceu, whom he always considered to be his daughter-in-law. As well, he leaves numerous friends and loved ones in Canada and Portugal. "Descanse em paz. Tu estas no nosso coracao para sempre." Viewing at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at Glen Eden, 4477 Main St. On the same day, a prayer service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. Msgr. Maurice Comeault will be officiating. A second viewing will be held at Glen Eden, 4477 Main St., at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23. The funeral will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden with Father Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating.
