Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD (DON) JOHNSON Peacefully, on Sunday, May 19, 2002, following a brief illness, Dad passed away at the age of 80 at the Grace General Hospital with his family at his side. He was fortunate to have his sister Ada and many close nieces, nephews and friends with him during his final hours. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Louise of 46 years, who passed away just seven months ago. Dad will be forever loved and remembered by his only daughter Elizabeth, her husband Steve and grandchildren, Taryn and Nathan, all of Kitchener, ON. He is survived by his sisters, Ada Smith of Selkirk and Alma Richardson of Winnipeg. He also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends throughout Winnipeg, northern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Dad was born on March 5, 1922 in Birch River, MB where he grew up with his family and attended school. He worked briefly in Flin Flon before moving to Winnipeg in 1940. Here he met and married mom and together they made their home in the Westwood area for 40 years. Dad enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, selling Real Estate for many years before his retirement. Dad will be remembered for his passion for automobiles, engines and took exceptional pride in his vehicles. He was known as Mr Fix it, loved to putter in his garage and was always willing to offer assistance to anyone that needed help with repairs of any kind. Dad and mom loved the outdoors and spent many weekends and holidays boating, water-skiing, fishing and camping. Dad and mom also enjoyed many years traveling to visit friends and family throughout Canada and the U.S.A. Dad also had a keen interest in music and especially loved his collection of polka and fiddle tunes which he enjoyed sharing with company. He was a member of the Lutheran Church all his life and very much enjoyed being a part of the Gloria Dei congregation. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the many relatives, friends and neighbours who provided support to Dad in recent years and especially the companionship over the past few months since Mom passed away. We would also like to thank the ICU doctors, nurses and the 4th Floor staff at the Grace General Hospital for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held Friday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6 or the Grace General Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
